Branchway · Compared with Finder

Branchway and Finder

Branchway is a Finder alternative, not a Finder removal. Finder stays on your Mac. This page lists what Branchway adds, and only what the app and its help pages already say.

What Branchway adds

Tabs and two panes

Tabs keep several folders in one window. Dual pane (⌥⌘2) puts two folders side by side, each in list, icon, column or gallery view. Tabs and dual pane

One box for files and commands

⌘K opens the command palette. Branchway keeps its own index of file names for each volume, including external drives, and merges in Spotlight results when Spotlight is on. Search and the command palette

A map of your disk

The storage view shows where a volume’s space goes. Storage view

Finder stays

Reveal in Finder (⌥⌘R) takes you to Finder whenever you want it. You can make Branchway the default file viewer in Settings. Questions

What it needs

macOS 14 or later, on Apple silicon or Intel. Branchway is Mac only.

What it costs

A one-time license with no subscription, after a 14-day free trial that has every feature. Launch price from $19 for 1 Mac, regular price $29. When the trial ends, browsing, search and preview stay free, and editing files needs a license.

What this page does not cover

It does not describe Finder’s own features or other file managers. For those, use their own documentation. If you want to see how Branchway feels, the trial is the way to do it.
